Newsworthiness Notes

What is news?

The news is current events that are brought to people nationwide.



-Six Criteria of Newsworthiness-


  1. Unusualness- something that is out of the ordinary

  2. Significance- Important event that effects people nation and or worldwide

  3. Timeliness- news while it is currently happening

  4. Proximity- Local events

  5. Prominence- Known people/places are involved
  6. Human interest- emotional aspects are involved

-Differences between Print and Broadcast Journalism-

  1. Print oftenly provides fuller coverage
  2. Readers pick what they want to read
  3. There are specialized news magazines for a certain topic
  4. Radio News is limited
  5. Broadcast is much faster
